Position Summary

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to work in the health care administrative field? If yes, we have casual opportunities for Administrative Services Assistants and Medical Office Assistants who are interested in working in the following areas:

• Public Health (maternity care, immunizations, speech, audiology, dental, vision screening)
• Home Health (switchboard, diabetes, heart function, information management)

Applicants must be interested in working in a fast-paced, exciting environment as part of team, utilizing a Team-Based Care delivery model.

This position performs reception, administrative duties, such as:

• Regular office and reception duties: Data entry, gathering, organizing, collecting, collating and verifying information, types correspondence, prepares presentations, arranges meeting, types agendas, takes and transcribes minutes, books travel, performs reception duties, record management;
• Schedules and confirms client appointments;
• Receives, records, checks and balances cash transactions;
• Clinical support - cleaning, setting up and dismantling rooms, cleaning/sanitizing toys and equipment, weighing and measuring babies, calibrating equipment, vision screenings;
• Cleans medical equipment and instruments;
• Delivering supplies and biologicals to health unit;
• Deal with clients who may be confused, anxious, angry or difficult.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Shift types for this position are days and evenings and shift times rotate from 08:00 to 16:30, 16:30 to 21:00, 08:00 to 18:00 hours.

Administrative Services Assistants
Education and Experience:
Grade 12, a certificate from a recognized office administration certificate program, plus one year recent related experience; or an equivalent combination of customer service, education, training and administrative experience.
Current valid BC Driver’s License.

Skills & Abilities:
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
• Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others
• Ability to operate related equipment
• Ability to organize and prioritize
• Ability to type at 40 wpm
• Knowledge of general office procedures
• Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients
• Knowledge of nursing equipment
• Knowledge of sterilization techniques and procedures
• Business writing skills

Medical Office Assistants
Education, Training and Experience:
• Grade 12
• Graduation from a Medical Office Assistant Certificate Program or Nursing Unit Clerk program from an accredited Community College
• Two years recent related experience in a health care setting; Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Completion of a Typing Test at 40 wpm dated within the past 48 months and must be issued from a valid institution only. (ON-LINE TESTS NOT ACCEPTED)
• Current valid BC Driver's License

Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to type at 40 wpm
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others in fast-paced health centre environment.
• Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and work roles.
• Ability to work as an effective member of an integrated administrative team.
• Ability to communicate effectively using all communication vehicles.
• Demonstrated proficiency in computer word processing, spreadsheet applications and specialized clinical information systems.
• Demonstrated ability to utilize and understand Medical Terminology.
• Ability to operate related equipment.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
• Ability to follow detailed instruction.
• Ability to use a high degree of tact and diplomacy in working with others.
