Position Summary

An exciting term specific full time opportunity is now available for a Rural & Remote Adult Mental Health & Substance Use Worker in Williams Lake. This position supports communities impacted by the 2017 Wildfires. The youth outreach worker focuses on providing support to the affected communities in the Highway 20 Corridor.

This position offers the opportunity to join a cohesive and supportive team while also enjoying autonomy and working independently in the role. There will also be opportunity to connect with other professionals in the school district, Child & Youth Mental Health, as well as Nation-based clinicians. We are seeking applicants who are culturally sensitive, understand working with First Nations populations and are inspired to do a lot of work to build rapport.

The Rural & Remote Adult Mental Health & Substance Use Worker functions as a member of the multi-disciplinary team, whose purpose is to ensure that adults with serious mental disorders and/or substance use have access to responsive, sensitive and relevant assessment and treatment services. The program serves the adult and elderly population that experiences mental health disorders or substance use and impairment in personal, family, financial, occupational and/or social life. This includes individuals with acute psychosis, bizarre behavior, depression, anxiety, complicated grief, suicidal ideation, substance use, substance dependence and concurrent disorders.

The primary duties include intake assessment, crisis intervention, referral, case management, psychogeriatric support, collaborative community planning, psycho-education with clients and their families, and liaison with appropriate professionals. Duties include urgent response intervention to individuals in acute crisis, consultation with other care providers to identify educational needs for the community and subsequent strategies to address these needs, and to coordinate services for adults and elderly with mental health and/or substance use problems.

Shifts of work are Monday to Friday; shift times are 08:30 to 16:30 hours. The term for this position is until September 16, 2021. We are expecting more opportunities within our team when this position ends and the successful candidate will be able to apply on our internal postings.

Bachelor’s Degree in a Health, Behavioural or Social Science related field, from an accredited university.

Two (2) years recent related experience in a community mental health and/or substance use setting; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Current valid BC driver’s license
