Position Summary

Interior Health’s East Kootenay Regional Hospital (EKRH) invites applications for the role of Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) Technician. EKRH is looking for knowledgeable MDR Technician with post-secondary education in cleaning, decontaminating, assembling, wrapping, sterilizing and distributing instruments and equipment related to the Operating Room.

EKRH is a 77-bed regional referral centre serving over 80,000 people. This hospital offers 24/7 emergency services, a brand new state-of-the-art six bed ICU, a new MRI space along with our four Operating Theatres, Medical Device Reprocessing Department and a separate expanded Ambulatory Care and Surgical Daycare Centre. As member of the EVH Operating Room team, you will perform a series of detailed technical duties related to the decontamination, sterilization, reassembly, function testing and distribution of medical and/or surgical supplies and instruments for various areas of the hospital; and perform related clerical duties and record keeping.

Reporting to Manger, Clinical Operations, you will draw upon established procedures and monitor and maintain established levels of sterile and non-sterile supplies used throughout the facility as per ward and department requirements by performing duties such as performing inventory counts, requisitioning supplies and equipment, reporting and recording shortages, problems and complaints related to instruments, supplies and equipment.

This position is to provide coverage until the return of incumbent and is eligible for Interior Health’s comprehensive benefits plan that includes coverage for basic Medical Services, Dental Services, and Extended Health. Days of work will be on a rotational basis of Days and Evenings.

EKRH Operating Room Department: There are four Operating Room Theatres including a new Urology suite which is supported by Pre-Surgical Screening, OR Booking, Surgical Day Care area and a 5 bed PACU. EKRH provides services in general surgery, urology (laser), gynecology/obstetrics, ENT (laser), dental and orthopedics. In addition there is cystoscopy, endoscopy, and cataract surgery. We are a team who likes to work and play in our own backyard. Educational and recruitment opportunities are ad hoc and based on necessity.

Education, Training and Experience:
Grade 12, successful completion of a recognized Sterile Supply Processing course, plus one year’s recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
