Position Summary

The Communications Coordinator is responsible for providing communications and consultation services to internal and external clients. The Coordinator is a member of the Communications and Public Engagement (CPE) Team and works in collaboration with colleagues in the Portfolio as well as across Interior Health (IH).

Reporting to the Director, Corporate Communications, the Coordinator is responsible for day-to-day operational content generation and support. This includes: writing and editing services, supporting the corporate monthly magazine, desktop publishing, writing and publishing news stories for the employee news website, corporate website maintenance, and social media participation, all of which facilitate the implementation of communication strategies that support IH’s objectives.

The Coordinator also supports the development and delivery of high quality and timely communication plans that inform and engage large, IH-wide audiences including employees, medical staff, and volunteers, as well as external audiences.

The Coordinator is expected to provide a high level of customer service and to be able to work independently, consistently exercising judgment and initiative.


TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Acquires, coordinates, and disseminates internal and external information to support a variety of communication tools, such as newsletters and websites.

• Supports the development and implementation of internal and external communication plans and strategies using the full suite of communication tools including social media.

• Responsible for editorial, creative, and publishing aspects of IH’s corporate magazine, @InteriorHealth.

• Responsible for creating and publishing content on IH’s employee news website, In the Loop.

• Supports planning and coordination for the CEO Leadership Link quarterly conference calls.

• Develops content and provides maintenance support for IH’s public and internal web sites.
• Assists with the development, coordination, and implementation of special projects and events consistent with the strategic directions of the Portfolio and in support of organizational values and goals.

• Responds to enquiries from the general public, employees, and the media or directs them to the most appropriate individual/area.

• Contributes to crisis communication planning and response delivery as a member of the CPE Team.

• Supports all members of the Communications Portfolio in achieving the objectives of the Portfolio by providing assistance and backup for team members as required.

• Performs other related duties as required.
 
Qualifications

Education, Training, and Experience
• A diploma or certificate in Communications or Public Relations.
• Five years of recent, related experience, including experience in communications/public relations and administrative coordination and support.
• Experience in digital communications including social media and web-based content management systems.
• An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will also be considered.
