Position Summary

Interior Health is looking for a motivated team player to join their Support Services team in Salmon Arm. The successful applicant will work as a Food Service Worker I, Food Service Worker II, Cook, and Cleaner in both Bastion Place, and Shuswap Lake General Hospital.

Duties of a Food Service Worker I and II include:

• Portioning and serving meals and beverages within a dining room and/or cafeteria operation;
• Counts, weighs and/or measures ingredients for assigned food preparation area;
• Washing and peeling vegetables and fruit;
• Assembles beverages and food items - tea, coffee, sandwiches, salads, bag lunches, items for Meals on Wheels;
• Prepares items such as meat, fish or poultry for procedures including grinding, flouring and breading;
• Prepares beverages and food items such as sandwich fillings, nourishments and therapeutic diet items including tube feedings and milkshakes;
• Receiving supplies and checking goods received against invoices;
• Takes and records temperature of hot foods at point of service
• Washing dishes and utensils;
• Setting up and delivering meal carts;
• Cleaning of food service areas;
• Clerical duties such as answering the telephone, filing, writing information on menu cards;


Duties of a Cook Include:

• Prepares assigned food items by following established menus, recipes and quantity quotas;
• Plans preparation and cooking schedule;
• Cooks and seasons assigned food and therapeutic diet items such as, soups, sauces, salads, starches, meats and other protein menu items, vegetables and desserts;
• Controls portioning of food items to ensure recipe yield meets assigned quantity quotas;
• Maintains established food rotations in storage in order to minimize spoilage and waste;
• Checks returned diet trays for items not consumed and makes substitutions according to therapeutic diet;
• Portions out and serves food and beverages within dining areas;

Duties of a Cleaner include:

• Maintaining clean and sanitary conditions in areas such as patient rooms, washrooms, corridors, hallways, and common areas;
• Cleans areas including floors, stairways, walls, windows and ceilings by sweeping, vacuuming, dust mopping, spot washing and wet washing;
• Cleans and disinfects washrooms;
• Strips and makes beds;
• Picks up soiled laundry and linens;
• Cleans Nursing area and isolation rooms including washing of furniture;
• Cleans upholstered furniture and carpets by vacuuming, shampooing, and brushing.


Hours of Work: Rotating Days and Evenings, 06:00 to 14:00, 09:30 to 17:30, 10:30 to 18:30, 05:20 to 13:20, 05:30 to 13:30, 10:45 to 18:45, 06:30 to 14:30, 07:00 to 15:00, 23:59 to 08:00, 10:00 to 18:00

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience:
• Grade 12
• Graduation from a recognized 12-month program in quantity cooking;
• Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Food Safe Certificate (completed in the last 5 years)

Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to deal with others effectively.
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
• Ability to organize work
• Ability to operate related equipment.
