Position Summary

Kamloops Public Health is seeking an experienced Certified Dental Assistant to join its Dental Team on a casual employment basis.

The Dental Team focuses dental services to children zero to 6 years of age in various community settings (e.g. Health Centres, Child Development Centres, Community Agencies, Friendship Centres, and Schools). Services include risk assessments for dental decay, fluoride varnish clinics, school surveys, presentations targeting high-risk groups and vulnerable populations, preschool/daycare kits and family counseling sessions.

This position practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia and assists with dental screening programs, the development and delivery of dental education programs and health promotion activities, preparing dental supplies and equipment, and completing data entry for screening programs and services. Interior Health Certified Dental Assistants function with a great degree of independence with an understanding of policies and procedures involved with preventive dental programs.

Casual employment includes: short-notice, on-call availability; workload coverage during a temporary absence; and/or providing relief coverage in a specific position. Shifts, when available, will be between the working hours of 08:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Casual employment means there are no guarantee of hours and work requirements can vary between Zero and 40 hours per week. Interior Health requires employees who work casual to work a minimum of 225 hours over a (twelve) 12 month period. A Casual employee will receive 9.6% of their straight time pay, exclusive of all premiums, in lieu of scheduled vacations and statutory holidays. Upon completion of 180 hours, a Casual employee has the option of purchasing medical, dental and extended health benefit plans.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience:

• Grade 12
• Certified Dental Assistant Certificate
• Registration and licensure as a Certified Dental Assistant in B.C.
• One year recent related experience
• Current valid BC Driver’s License.
