Position Summary

We have a Perinatal/Pediatrics nursing opportunity available in Vernon, right here in the beautiful Okanagan Valley.

Vernon Jubilee Hospital (VJH) recently opened a brand new state-of-the-art 231,000 square foot patient care tower which houses the new Women’s and Children’s Health Services Department. Programs and services have been consolidated and modernized to improve health service delivery and within this model you will have an opportunity to use skills and knowledge that cross over between pediatrics and maternity.

Our nurses rotate through all service assignments (i.e. ante, intra, and postpartum; in and out-patient pediatrics; gynecology; and nursery) and on average we see 780 births per year at VJH. Single room maternity care offer a great way to practice perinatal nursing and the nurses work days (07:00 to 19:00 hours) and nights (19:00 to 07:00) with rotating days off.

VJH’s Women’s and Children’s Health Services has a wonderful team spirit enhanced by the wide range in nurses’ experience and great staffing levels. Our staff enjoy a very collegial and cohesive relationship within our department, which includes GPs, a Mid-Wife, Obstetricians, and Pediatricians.

Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC).

Perinatal: Advanced preparation in a Perinatal clinical specialty or an equivalent combination of education & experience.

Pediatric: One (1) year recent related acute pediatric nursing experience on a unit similar in size and scope to the facility, with knowledge of physiology and psychology of children aged new born to 16 years, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

New nursing grads must have completed their final preceptorship on a pediatric inpatient unit.

Current Fetal Health Surveillance.

Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NPR) within 2 years.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) within 3 years.
