Position Summary

Put your perinatal nursing skills into full motion and join the passionate and welcoming nursing staff at Kootenay Lake Hospital, in the beautiful community of Nelson. Kootenay Lake Hospital is looking for a self-directed, motivated, reliable and flexible Registered Nurse who enjoys working in a team environment and has a strong desire to learn.

We have a very active maternity unit where all nurses cover labour, delivery and postpartum as well as some nursery for minor issues, growers and infants being stabilized prior to transport out. Nurses must also be able to care for post operative gyne surgery patients and overflow medical patients. There are three delivery suites, three post partum beds and ten bassinettes with 350 deliveries a year. The RNs shift times are: 07:00 to 19:00, 19:00 to 07:00, and 09:00 to 20:00.

Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC).

Perinatal: Advanced preparation in a Perinatal clinical specialty or an equivalent combination of education & experience.

Pediatric: One year recent related acute pediatric nursing experience on a unit similar in size and scope to the facility, with knowledge of physiology and psychology of children aged new born to 16 years or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

New nursing grads must have completed their final preceptorship on a pediatric inpatient unit.

Current Fetal Health Surveillance.
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NPR) within 2 years.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) within 3 years.
